Word Wednesday #15

"Blessed are they that keep His testimonies,
and that seek Him with the whole heart."
(Psalm 119:2)

It is not enough to merely read God's Word -- we must do it, we must seek God undistracted and then follow Him!

"Then shall I not be ashamed,
when I have respect unto all Thy commandments."
(Psalm 119:6)

Thanks for sharing these verses, Amanda! I love how Psalm 119 has so much about keeping the testimonies of the Lord!!

"7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous.
37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off."
Psalm 37

Psalm 37 has always been a favorite of mine, but it wasn't until this past week that the Lord showed me how this psalm is a study of contrast between the wicked and the upright. The upright rest in the LORD and wait for him patiently. He is not to fear the wicked devices of evildoers. Why? Because evildoers shall be cut off. Their arms shall be broken until they are finally destroyed together. But the LORD will uphold the upright and cause him to inherit the earth. And while the end of the wicked is that they will be cut off, the end of "the perfect man" is peace.

@Kenzi,

Psalm 37 is one of those beautiful Psalms (but then, so are many others :)). A good point about the contrast between wicked and righteous. A good reminder to weigh our steps and see which path we're trodding!

It made me think of the verses in Ephesians I studied today:
"That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." Ephesians 4:22-24

Amen! Thank you for sharing, Amanda!!

"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? . . .But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." - Matthew 6:26-30,33

Oh, may the Lord increase my faith and trust in Him!! As Corrie Ten Boom said: "Worry does not empty today of its sorrow, it empties tomorrow of its strength." :)

Love you!

P.S. Thank you for sharing your verses and thoughts, Kenzi! :D As soon as I saw Psalm 37, I smiled . . . ;D

@Patience,

I love that passage in Matthew 6. Every time I read it, it causes me to really stop and think. Thanks for sharing!

Sorry I'm late. Better late than never, right? I have really enjoyed these posts every Wednesday, Amanda, as well as the comments from Patience and Kenzi. (I always come back and check out the comments both to see others and to see your responses :-) This has been a great blessing.

Psalm 139: 1,2,23,24
"O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

It's amazing how this Psalm begins and ends with the same basic thoughts. Many times I try to out think myself (if you know what I mean) and it ends by my not even knowing what I think, or what I should think about ______ (fill in the blank). In such cases as these I just need to pray and ask the Lord to take control of my thoughts and to give me the mind of Christ. I'm thankful Christ knows and understands my thoughts and my ways even when I don't, and I pray He will guide me in all things.

Hope this makes sense. :-)

Love you!

@Janell,

I'll always take "late" comments. :) I appreciate all of you girls being faithful to share what God has shown you from His Word. It has been a much bigger blessing than I anticipated when I began fifteen weeks ago.

Wow . . . I can identify too well with what you shared and really needed that reminder from Psalm 139 today (see? better late than never - God knew I needed it today and not Wednesday ;)). Thank you.
